Higher Technical Qualifications and Online Degree Pathways: Complete Guide

Is an HTQ a degree?
An HTQ is NOT a full bachelor's degree — it is a Level 4 or Level 5 qualification (foundation degree-equivalent). However, HTQs can be used to progress directly into year 2 or year 3 of a bachelor's degree.
Are HTQs recognised by employers?
Yes — HTQs are designed by employers in collaboration with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) specifically to meet skills gaps. Hiring employers explicitly recognise them.
Can I get student finance for an HTQ?
Yes. HTQs are eligible for student finance through Student Finance England (or equivalent UK regions), covering tuition fees and maintenance loans on the same terms as a degree.
