What is charged separately

Awarding body and exam fees

Some qualifications require you to register with the awarding body and sit external exams. These fees (such as GCSE and A-Level exam entry, or awarding body registration for certain regulated qualifications) are paid directly to the awarding body or exam centre and are not included in the learndirect tuition fee. The exact amount for each course is shown on the course page and confirmed by an adviser before you enrol.

Typical course price ranges

Pricing questions

Common pricing questions

Clear answers on payment, refunds, awarding body fees and Student Finance.

  • Are there any hidden costs on top of the course fee?
The learndirect tuition fee covers learning materials, tutor support and assignment marking. Some qualifications require you to register with the awarding body or sit external exams (for example GCSEs and A-Levels) and those fees are paid separately to the awarding body or exam centre. The exact additional cost for each course is shown on the course page and confirmed before enrolment so you always know the total cost.
  • How does the interest-free monthly plan work?
You pay a deposit (from 10%) and the balance is split into equal monthly Direct Debits over 6, 9, 12 or 24 months depending on the course. There is no interest, no credit check and no impact on your credit file. You can pay off early at any time with no penalty.
  • Is paying in full cheaper than the monthly plan?
No. The total tuition cost is the same whether you pay in full or use the interest-free monthly plan. Paying in full means one single payment and no monthly admin, while the monthly plan lets you spread the cost without paying any extra.
  • What happens if I cancel after enrolling?
You have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of enrolment under UK consumer law, with a full refund as long as you have not accessed substantial course content. After the 14-day cooling-off period, our refund policy applies. The full policy is set out on the refunds page and confirmed at enrolment.
  • Which courses qualify for Student Finance?
Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) at Levels 4 and 5 are eligible for Student Finance England, the same funding system used for university degrees. You can see all HTQs on the Online Degree Pathways page.
  • Do you offer employer-funded or bulk pricing?
Yes. learndirect works with employers, NHS trusts and local authorities on group enrolments and CPD pathways. Speak to an adviser to discuss employer-funded routes and volume pricing.
  • Can I switch courses after I enrol?
In most cases yes, as long as you have not progressed past the early units. Course transfers are handled by the learner support team and any difference in fee is adjusted on your plan.
