CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership

“The enrolment adviser guided me through every step in a friendly and professional manner. After the call I felt completely clear about what I was getting into – and that confidence carried straight into my first assignment.”

The Challenge

Jarel had been managing a team of twelve at a logistics company in Manchester for three years after being promoted from a senior operative role. He was a strong people manager by instinct – his team had the lowest turnover and highest productivity scores in the division – but he knew that without a formal management qualification, his chances of being considered for an Operations Manager post were limited. Two colleagues who had been promoted ahead of him both held CMI qualifications, and his line director had made it clear that senior appointments required evidence of formal management development.

Why learndirect

Jarel researched CMI providers online and was impressed by the range of support learndirect offered. When he called to enquire, the enrolment adviser – who happened to share his first name – was thorough, personable, and deeply knowledgeable about the CMI Level 5 programme. “He asked the right questions, gave me clear information, and wasn't pushing me to enrol – he was just making sure it was the right fit.” His employer agreed to split the cost of the Certificate as part of a talent development arrangement, with Jarel contributing the remainder. CMI membership was included from day one, giving him immediate access to the Management Direct library he now uses regularly.

The Outcome

Jarel is currently midway through his CMI Level 5 Certificate and has already noticed changes in how he approaches management problems. “I have language and frameworks now for things I was doing intuitively – it's made me much more deliberate and effective as a manager.” His line director has acknowledged the development in Jarel's strategic thinking and has confirmed that he is first in line for the next Operations Manager vacancy, which carries a salary of £52,000–£58,000. He plans to progress to the CMI Level 5 Diploma after the Certificate.
