The AAT Level 2 Certificate and Level 3 Diploma in Accounting Combined (Q2022) is a two-level bundle that takes learners from the very foundations of double-entry bookkeeping all the way through to the advanced accounting and business skills required to work confidently as a qualified accounting technician. Awarded by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) — the world’s leading professional membership body for accounting technicians, with more than 130,000 members in over 90 countries — both qualifications within this bundle follow the current AAT Q2022 syllabus, which was comprehensively updated to reflect the demands of modern accounting practice, including digital tools, Making Tax Digital (MTD), and evolving ethical standards.
The bundle begins with the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, which introduces the core mechanics of bookkeeping: setting up bookkeeping systems; processing customer and supplier transactions; reconciling bank statements; producing trial balances; understanding the principles of costing; and gaining an introductory grounding in the business environment, ethics, and contract law through the synoptic Business Environment unit. Level 2 is assessed through four computer-based assessments and on successful completion, learners become eligible to apply for AAT Qualified Bookkeeper (AATQB) status — a recognised professional designation that signals practical bookkeeping competence to employers and clients.
The programme then progresses seamlessly into the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, which builds significantly on Level 2 foundations. The four Level 3 units develop advanced double-entry bookkeeping and financial statement preparation; management accounting techniques including variance analysis, cost attribution, and spreadsheet-based reporting; a deeper understanding of how businesses operate ethically and sustainably in their external environments; and the processing and reporting requirements of VAT and payroll under UK tax legislation. Level 3 represents a major step up in analytical complexity and professional application, and prepares learners for both the Level 4 Diploma and for meaningful roles in finance and accounting practice.
All eight units across both levels are assessed through AAT computer-based assessments (CBAs), sat at approved AAT assessment venues across the UK. Unlike many professional qualifications, AAT assessments can be sat on demand at times chosen by the learner — there are no fixed exam sittings or annual windows to work around. Online study materials, mock assessments, and dedicated tutor support are provided throughout the bundle, giving learners everything they need to study effectively and sit their assessments with confidence.
