The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC and Level 5 HND in Digital Technologies for England is a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) — a government-endorsed credential aligned to employer-designed occupational standards approved by Skills England (formerly IfATE). As an HTQ, this qualification is eligible for Student Finance England, meaning your tuition fees can be covered by a student loan with nothing to pay upfront. A maintenance loan is also available to support your living costs while you study.
Delivered through our Online Degree Pathways faculty in partnership with South East Colleges Group (SECG) and awarded by Pearson Education Ltd, this programme gives you a genuine choice of six specialist pathways: Cyber Security & Cloud Networking, Software Development & Programming, Data Analytics, Digital Communications Management, Business Analytics & Change Management, and AI Solutions & Applications. Every pathway shares two core foundation units before specialising across six dedicated units at Level 4, giving you both breadth and depth in your chosen discipline.
At Level 5 (HND), three cross-pathway core units — Business Intelligence, Internet of Things, and Emerging Technologies — ensure all graduates understand the interconnected digital landscape, while your specialist mandatory units deliver the advanced technical skills mapped directly to Skills England occupational standards including Software Developer, Cyber Security Technologist, Data Analyst, Network Engineer, Business Analyst, and more. There are no written exams: assessment is 100% coursework-based, graded Pass, Merit, or Distinction. On completing the HND, you can step directly into Year 3 of a partner university BSc (Hons) programme to earn a full honours degree in as little as one additional year.
