The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Engineering) is a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification, awarded by OCNL (Open College Network London) and regulated by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). It is the established route for adults who want to enter engineering degree study without traditional A-level qualifications in maths, physics, and chemistry.
The diploma is built around the core academic disciplines that all engineering degrees require: Mathematics (algebra, calculus, trigonometry, and algebraic/trigonometric techniques in engineering), Physics and Chemistry (atomic structure, mechanics, thermodynamics, organic chemistry, and material properties), and Engineering Principles (mechanical engineering principles, energy and motion, engineering calculus, and a design project). All 16 units are mapped directly to the mathematical and scientific foundation expected by university engineering departments.
The course is delivered 100% online with no campus attendance requirements. You progress through units at your own pace, submitting assignments through our learning platform. A dedicated personal tutor with engineering subject expertise provides detailed written feedback on every piece of work. Most learners complete in 9–12 months.
Assessment is entirely portfolio and assignment-based — no examinations. Grade profiles of Pass, Merit, or Distinction translate directly into UCAS points, and our team can help you identify universities whose entry requirements align with your target grade profile.
