Questions Answered
Careers After HTQ – Common Questions
Answers to the questions learners most commonly ask about HTQ career outcomes and progression.
What jobs can I get after completing an HTQ?
An HTQ opens doors to a wide range of professional roles depending on your chosen pathway. Healthcare graduates can pursue roles such as Healthcare Assistant Practitioner (£25,000–£35,000), NHS Band 4 Healthcare Support Worker (£26,530–£29,114), and Care Coordinator (£28,000–£35,000).
Leadership and Management HTQ graduates typically progress to Operations Manager (£40,000–£80,000), Regional Manager (£45,000–£85,000), or Divisional Manager (£50,000–£90,000) roles. Digital Technologies graduates can enter careers as AI Solutions Architect (£55,000–£85,000), Data Analyst (£35,000–£55,000), or Cloud Solutions Engineer (£40,000–£65,000). Computing HTQ graduates find roles as Business Analyst (£43,500–£60,000), Software Developer (£35,400–£55,000), or Cyber Security Technologist (£50,000–£80,000).
Do HTQ graduates earn more than degree holders?
Yes. Research by the Department for Education (DfE) shows that HTQ graduates earn £2,700–£5,100 more per year at age 30 compared to those with traditional degrees alone. This earnings premium reflects the practical, employer-designed nature of the HTQ curriculum, which maps directly to high-demand occupational standards set by Skills England.
HTQ programmes are also completed in two years compared to a standard three-year degree, meaning you can enter employment a year earlier – compounding your earnings advantage further.
Can I progress to a full degree after an HTQ?
Yes. Upon completing Level 4 and Level 5 – which together constitute the HTQ – you are eligible to progress to the final year of a full bachelor's degree at one of our partner universities, including the Open University, Arden University, London Metropolitan University (LMU), ARU London, UCLan, and the University of Bolton.
This top-up degree year is also eligible for Student Finance, meaning all three years of the pathway are fully funded. You graduate with the same degree classification as a traditional three-year route.
How long does it take to qualify and enter a new career?
The HTQ pathway takes approximately two years: 9–12 months for Level 4 (HNC) and a further 9–12 months for Level 5 (HND). You can enter employment in your chosen sector after completing Level 5, with many learners securing roles during or immediately after study.
If you continue to a top-up degree at a partner university, you can graduate with a full bachelor's degree in three years – the same time as a traditional degree, but at significantly lower cost, with complete flexibility, and with an employer-designed qualification that carries an earnings premium.
